What is Freight Shipping?

Freight shipping is a type of transport for special, fragile, and/or oversized items, in which the item is driven on a specialty truck to its destination — your home. Dendwell benefits from a type of freight shipping called LTL (less-than-truckload) freight in which your item is packed with other items heading for the delivery along the same route.

For example, if you order a dining table from San Francisco to New York, your table might travel with objects heading from LA to Chicago.

Why does my order need to be shipped via freight?

Freight shipping is the only way to transport specialty, oversized items that can't be delivered via a standard carrier like UPS or FedEx.

Why does freight shipping cost more than standard carriers?

The price of a freight shipment is calculated by 3 inputs: weight (of the object), fragility, and distance. For example, the farther your object is traveling, the more expensive the shipment will be.

There are more costs and parties involved in a freight shipment: the driver, the mileage and fuel of the truck, special handling, wrapping, and securing of an object into the truck, and distance. Because of this complexity, there are fewer drivers and trucks available to execute these shipments.

What does freight shipping include?

  • Item collection, packing, shipping and full insurance

  • Delivery to an area outside of your house or building (e.g. dry area of your front door, porch, landing area, garage, etc.)

  • Delivery inside an apartment building lobby if there is safe entry and size permits

Notes to know:

  • Does not include unpacking, inspection, assembly or installation

  • A crate or similar packing materials may be used to provide maximum protection

  • A signature is required upon delivery

Time Estimate:

Within the US: 3–8 Weeks

FAQ

Why do you charge a $400 quote?

The typical price range for a freight shipment within the US is between $400 - $800. We issue an initial charge as a down payment to be able to move forward with booking your shipment. Once a freight shipment is booked, it is difficult to cancel as it depends on a driver already on a route that matches your shipment.

How will I pay for the remaining balance?

Our team will email you an online invoice to pay via any major credit card.

How long will it take to receive my shipment?

Freight shipments take 2-6 weeks to arrive. The driver of your shipment will call you directly 3-5 days before their arrival to confirm the date and time of your delivery.

Do I need to be present for the delivery of my shipment?

Yes, someone from your household must be present to sign and receive the shipment.

What if I need to cancel my shipment?

Shipments may only be canceled *prior* to their collection from the seller's address, and may not be eligible for cancellation. If you need to cancel your shipment, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing assist@dendwell.com.
